Influence of Unipolar Corona Discharge on Properties of Pulp and Paper Materials

We have studied a possibility of producing pulp and paper materials with an improved performance by means of unipolar corona discharge treatment of the paper. An increase of physical and mechanical properties of the electric-field-treated material was shown to occur due to its structural elements orientation and bond strengthening between the cellulose fibers during their mutual approach. A barrier performance increase of the unipolar corona discharge treated paper was caused by the energy barrier appearance, on overcoming of which the moving force of the liquid spreading on the surface of the material is spent.
