Institute of Applied Physics – 55 Years

Abstract

The path traversed by the Institute of Applied Physics (IAP) from the Institute of Energy and Automation (1961) to the Institute of Electrophysical Problems (1963) and the IAP formation (1964) under the leadership of the founder and first director academician Boris Lazarenko is outlined retrospectively. The following is sketched out: the main activities, strategy and justification of a closed cycle of work from fundamental and applied research to the implementation of the results in the form of advanced technologies and technical means for their implementation based on the structure of the Institute – Experimental Plant – Special Design and Technology Bureau of solid-state electronics. The development of IAP beginning from the first laboratories to the modern scientific center, its structural changes at different stages of development and training of scientific personnel is shown. The organization of conferences, international cooperation, famous scientific schools, highest score Institute accreditations and international recognition of the Institute are described also. The article highlights collaborators publications in prestigious journals, patent and publishing activities, uninterrupted more than half a century-old edition of the journal, which is translated into English and included in the global data banks, major aspects of science management change and development of innovative activity.
