The change of the level of kerosene-based magnetic colloid in the electric field of a plane capacitor was investigated. When the electric field was switched on, A signi-ficant short-term changes in the level in the thin near-electrode layer were observed experimentally. The thickness of the near-electrode layers and the characteristic time of their formation are determined from the experimental data. Possible mechanisms of that effect are discussed.
