It is shown that when powder of shungite is heated to 790–820 K oxidation-reduction reactions take place. They reduce the intensity and the Bragg angles of diffraction peaks, which characterize the mineral phase. Changes in the structure of the mineral during heating leads to an increase in the specific magnetization of the mineral powder of 0.01 to 0.07 A×m2/kg at room temperature.
